School's Challenge 2016
On Sunday 17th April, over 2500 pupils and over 500 staff and volunteers from 47 schools across Plymouth took to the roads around Plymouth Hoe.
The children have been following a 12 week programme where they ran 1 mile each week, building up to the Half Marathon where they ran their final mile.
Woodford Primary School entered just short of 200 pupils into the Challenge along with over 20 staff and volunteers and many others entered over 100 pupils.
The weather was fantastic and all the children had a wonderful time. The first to cross the finish line was Sam from Old Priory Junior Academy in under 7 minutes.
CLIC Sargent were delighted to have been chosen as the official charity for the Plymouth Half Marathon Schools Challenge for a third consecutive year. As well as getting pupils involved in the programme to promote health and activity within schools, they wanted to provide each child with an opportunity to learn more about the charity and help to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer. In 2015, CLIC Sargent supported 142 families in Devon who had a child with cancer. They fund a range of services including a social worker and two specialist nurses who are based at Derriford Hospital.
Each child was given a t-shirt to wear on the day and received a medal and goody bag at the finish line.
Well done and thank you to everyone who took part this year!
